Creative Writing Workshop:
Write an Artist Statement
Thursday, February 9th, 2023
5pm – 7pm
This 2-hour workshop with Katy Strass takes you on a reflective journey to put visual arts practice into words. To some creatives this is one of those daunting tasks, next to pricing artwork, that can feel like a roadblock to opportunities. An artist statement is one document you must have. Well, artists should really have one on hand and we will break down the process to be less scary.
Whether you are exhibiting, teaching, or taking on commissions, artist statements tell your story. Artist statements dig deeper into why you make art. Writing artist statements helps to pick apart, reflect, and grow as an artist. These statements are the long version!
During the workshop, participants will explore different types of artist statements. Key steps in identifying the information that is included in an artist statement will be taken. A series of questions about the artist will be answered most importantly identifying What, How, and Why someone makes art.
